!! AHOA members !!
There is great concern this year for fires on the mountain.
With a relatively dry winter and a wet spring we have a recipe for disaster. The state is predicting an extremely bad fire season this year, worse than in 2012; which means restrictions will probably come early this year. You can check to see if there are any restrictions at http://utahfireinfobox.com/fire-restrictions/
We have a wide range of people on the mountain, retirees, guests, teenagers and families young and old. We all enjoy sitting around a cozy campfire on cool evenings, however, not everyone could be familiar with the current fire restrictions.
To help keep our mountain safe we need to look out for one another, if you see an unsafe fire, or a fire during a period of fire restrictions, please help educate them on the rules and point them to the website for additional information.
PLEASE if you are approached because someone thinks your fire is unsafe, PLEASE don’t get defensive and listen to what they have to say and consider better alternatives to the current situation.
PLEASE everyone, be safe and PLEASE, PLEASE make sure all fires are out cold before you leave the area.
If you see a fire that has been abandoned PLEASE call the Sanpete County Sheriff Dispatch @ 435-835-2345 (put that number in your phone). If the fire has been abandoned they will prosecute the property owner.
There are some safe fire pit suggestions on the Sanpete County Fire Wardens web site. http://sanpete.com/pages/fire
There are other fire hazards. Sparks and hot engines such as chainsaws, weed eaters, ATVs, and Motor Vehicles can ignite a fire. If you pull on the dry grass with a hot engine and exhaust it can start a fire. Make sure your ATV, chainsaws and weed eaters have a spark arrestor. Dragging a safety chain can create Sparks. A lot of fires are caused from welding.
Let’s all think safety and enjoy the mountain for years to come.
Thank You,
Wesley Gurney

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Reported by Wesley Gurney (Board Member over Fire Saftey)
Utah Firewise Communities/USA resident leaders,
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is exited to share that residents living in an active Utah Firewise community, and a member of USAA, are now eligible to receive a discount on their homeowners policy. The discount will automatically be applied upon the policy’s renewal, members do not need to notify USAA that they live in a Firewise community in good standing, or provide any proof; the partnership with NFPA allows the discount to be applied seamlessly. The discount will be reflected on the member’s declaration page of their policy renewal forms. New USAA policies for homes in recognized communities, also qualify for the discount, but homes must meet USAA’s underwriting standards before a new USAA policy can be issued. All other selection rules and acceptability criteria apply.
USAA has analyzed the experience of their members living in Firewise communities in several states and found their analysis demonstrates that the influence of the Firewise program in a community, measurably results in reduced wildfire losses compared to communities in the same state that do not engage in wildfire mitigation programs. USAA is the first major national insurance provider to offer such discounts to members living in a Firewise Community. Utah now joins six other states where the discount is available.
More details on the discount can be found at Firewise.org, or in the NFPA news release distributed today. Please share this new program benefit with your community’s residents, so they know of the potential cost savings that may be available to them.
Sincerely,
Cathy

Please leave a comment for Wesley Gurney, Board Member over Fire:
To all BOARD members and PROPERTY owners … We all need to pay CLOSE attention to everyone around us . I have NOTICED several ILLEGAL fire pits in the subdivision at the end of last summer. I mentioned it to a couple of board members and it seemed to go NO where. Again this weekend, with the snow melting I have noticed a couple more. My brother Steve Johnson had to tell a property owner last summer to put out their fire or he was calling the Fire Marshal. THIS IS NOT OK!!!THIS NEEDS MAJOR ATTENTION AND NEEDS TO BE TALKED ABOUT IN THE NEWS LETTER AND AT THE ANNUAL MEETING. NOT JUST MAKE A COMMENT ABOUT IT, BUT NEEDS TO BE TALKED ABOUT!!!!!! Everyone can make a comment or complain about the roads or about ASPEN HILLS BOARD but yet no one will tell there neighbors about there illegal ROCKS AROUND A CIRCLE WITH GRASS GROWING NEXT TO THEIR FIRE PIT …and to get a proper fire pit. I SURE HOPE SOMETHING DOES NOT HAPPEN TO OUR BEATIFUL MOUNTAIN !!!!!!
